The Switchblade has built its reputation around predictable power, dependable control and confidence when riding fully powered. The 2026 Design Works version retains that established Switchblade DNA but develops the kite specifically around the stiffness, low weight and responsiveness of a full Aluula airframe.
This is not simply a standard Switchblade with a different leading-edge material. Cabrinha has refined the aspect ratio, leading-edge diameter, aerodynamic profiles and bridle configuration to take advantage of Aluula construction. The result is a lighter, faster and more reactive Switchblade with improved efficiency and support through an expanded usable wind range.
Cabrinha Design Works products sit at the performance-focused edge of the range. Materials, construction and design are developed together to extract additional performance rather than simply producing a lighter version of an existing product.
Full Aluula airframe
The Aluula airframe is central to the Switchblade Design Works. Its high stiffness-to-weight characteristics allow the kite to maintain a strongly supported structure under load while reducing overall airframe weight.
- Reduced airframe weight
- Increased structural stiffness
- Sharper steering response
- Faster flight through the window
- More efficient power delivery
- Improved support through an extended wind range
Vert-X Bridle – High-Y or Low-V
One of the defining features of the 2026 Switchblade Design Works is Cabrinha’s Vert-X Bridle. The system allows the kite to work with the Cabrinha Unify control bar in either a High-Y or Low-V configuration, giving riders additional control over the kite’s turning characteristics, feedback and overall ride feel.
| Configuration | Ride characteristic | Best suited to |
| High-Y | Faster steering, tighter turning radius, clearer bar feedback and a more pivot-driven turn | Riders prioritising responsive steering, tighter loops and reduced pull through the turn |
| Low-V | A more traditional Cabrinha line split with a familiar freeride handling character | Riders who prefer the conventional Low-V Unify setup and established Switchblade feedback |
The Vert-X system is designed to provide additional tuning choice. Always follow Cabrinha’s recommended bridle and control-bar setup instructions.
Design changes for the Design Works edition
- Slightly higher aspect ratio for improved efficiency, lift and glide
- Reduced leading-edge diameter for faster flight and steering response
- Modified aerodynamic profiles for improved upwind performance
- Full Aluula frame for greater stiffness at a lower weight
- Vert-X bridle for High-Y and Low-V tuning flexibility
- Lightweight trailing-edge support to control flutter and maintain canopy stability
