Kitesurf & Wing Foil Helmets

A helmet is one of the simplest upgrades you can make for safer progression in kitesurfing and wing foiling. Whether you’re learning, riding in gusty wind, practising transitions, or spending time around other riders, a well-fitting water sports helmet helps protect against knocks from boards, foils, masts and the water surface.

What to look for

  • Correct fit: snug and stable without pressure points. A good helmet shouldn’t wobble when you shake your head.
  • Water-ready materials: corrosion-resistant hardware and quick-dry liners for saltwater use.
  • Comfort + ventilation: helps on warm sessions and reduces fatigue on longer rides.
  • Secure retention: a reliable chin strap and adjustment system keeps the helmet in place during falls.
  • Ear coverage choice: some riders prefer ear protection, others prefer more open hearing—choose what suits your conditions.

When helmets matter most

Helmets are especially useful for beginners, for learning in onshore wind, in busy launches, and for riders practising jumps, tacks, gybes and higher-speed foiling. If you’re building a beginner setup, we generally recommend a helmet alongside an impact vest for confidence and comfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a helmet for wing foiling or kitesurfing?
We strongly recommend helmets for beginners and for anyone riding in gusty wind, busy areas, or practising new manoeuvres. They help protect against impacts with boards, foils/masts, other riders, and the water surface.
How should a watersports helmet fit?
It should feel snug and stable without pressure points. When you shake your head, it shouldn’t slide or wobble. Use the adjustment system to fine-tune the fit and keep the chin strap comfortably secure.
Do helmets work with impact vests?
Yes — helmets and impact vests complement each other. Many beginners find the combination boosts confidence because it reduces the “punishment” of repeated falls while learning. Your impact vests collection is here: Impact Vests & Buoyancy Aids.
Should I choose ear protection or open ears?
Ear coverage can add protection and warmth, while open-ear designs can feel less restrictive and improve hearing. If you regularly ride in cold water or choppy conditions, ear coverage can be a good choice.
How do I look after my helmet?
Rinse with fresh water after saltwater sessions, let it dry out of direct heat, and check straps/buckles regularly. Replace your helmet if it’s taken a significant impact or shows cracks.
