How to Choose the Right Wing Size
Choosing the correct wing size is one of the most important decisions when building a wingfoil setup. The right size depends on rider weight, wind strength and the efficiency of your board and foil.
Larger wings generate more power and help riders get on foil earlier in lighter wind. Smaller wings offer more control in stronger wind and are preferred by experienced riders or wave-focused wingfoilers.
The guide below provides general sizing advice for UK wind conditions and freeride wingfoiling setups.

What Affects Wing Size
Rider Weight
Heavier riders require larger wings to generate enough power to lift onto foil.
Wind Strength
Lighter winds require larger wings, while strong wind sessions are more comfortable with smaller sizes.
Board & Foil Setup
Efficient foil designs and larger boards make it easier to ride smaller wings in lighter wind.
Essential Wingfoil Accessories
Alongside your wing, board and foil setup, these safety accessories are recommended for most beginner wingfoil riders.
Helmet
Helmets protect against board and foil impacts during falls and learning sessions.

Many riders eventually build a two wing quiver such as a 5m and 4m combination for typical UK wind ranges.
Yes. While wings are measured in square metres, design differences mean some models generate slightly more power than others.
